Why Mindset isn’t the Holy Grail

You gotta get into action!

When the idea of making bags out of canvas that I painted myself came to me, I knew that I had to take action on it without delay. It felt like the universe made me an offer that only stood for a few days.

So the very next day I grabbed some painted canvas leftovers from a workshop and sewed a bag. I kind of made up the cut as I went and you can totally see that ;-).

It wasn’t about beauty or perfection, but about implementation of the idea.

We can think about all aspects of a project, look at it from all angles and mentally solve any potential problem that we can think of. But when we don’t move our fingers to get started, we’d have just wasted a lot of thought on nothing. The project stays a castle in the air.

In the personal development arena there’s a lot of talk about the importance of mindset and how much you should journal, meditate and breathe.

I agree that mindset is important, however, mindset work has to come in conjunction with real world physical action to yield real world results.

In my case my mindset was

i) This is an awesome idea and I use it, thank you so much.

ii) I can sew well enough to make a prototype.

iii) I don’t give a f… what it looks like. It doesn’t need to be perfect right now, I just want to see if it works.

iv) This feels good, let’s do it right away and I’ll start with the first step and see what challenges await me to be solved later.

These thoughts helped me to take the idea and bring the necessary action to it — to make a protobag.

Had I waited to find the perfect cut or taken a bag-sewing online course, I’d still be wondering which phase of the moon is best to start a business of hand-painted bags. Is there a list for that?

I want to gently but firmly encourage you to take your ideas and run with them. Cover some ground before you worry about the next steps.

Take your bodily impulses to move seriously and get going!

Do you struggle with that? Allow yourself to be supported.

I coach women on following their desires and live a purposeful life. Are you curious aka Does your body open up to this offer? Contact me and we’ll find out if we want to coach together.
